Fleet Supervision

The cost of owning and operating a fleet of vehicles represents a significant balance sheet item for any company operating a transportation division. By optimizing the management of your fleet, higher productivity can be achieved per vehicle, resulting in lowered cost of operations. If a reduction in the number of fleet vehicles can also be achieved without negatively impacting overall efficiency, significant additional cost savings can be realized. Superior fleet management practices also contribute directly to a more productive workforce and increased customer satisfaction.

Our Solution

PlanGlobal’s Fleet Management System provides your company with 24/7 monitoring and management of your enterprise fleet. Our highly qualified and trained Operations Centre personnel track, report and optimize your fleet operations using the latest technology or the existing telematics system already deployed in your transportation division. By continually evaluating vehicle performance and tracking Key Performance Indicators (KPI), fleet performance can be maximized, resulting in lower costs and increased return on investment.

System Components

The components of PlanGlobal’s system include:

  • In-Vehicle Operations Monitoring
  • Route Optimization
  • Automated Trip Reports
  • Fleet Logistics Analysis
  • Fuel Consumption Tracking
  • Asset Replacement Planning
  • Scheduled Maintenance Tracking
  • Fleet Program Auditing
  • System Reporting
  • Hardware and Software Administration and Support

In-Vehicle Operations Monitoring

Monitoring the instrumentation data and the driver’s actions provide significant advantages by detecting engine issues and improving driver performance.

Remote monitoring of fault code and other onboard information can help identify engine and other vehicle issues before developing into costly repairs and vehicle downtime.

By detecting and subsequently addressing unproductive driver behaviors, such as speeding, over-revving, hard breaking, improper shifting, and excessive idling, fuel consumption is reduced, vehicle longevity extended, and in the case of unsafe driving practices such as speeding, personnel safety and accident avoidance are improved significantly. Analyzing this information also allows comparisons of vehicles and drivers, in order to target improvement areas in assets and personnel.

Route Optimization

A carefully planned and properly designed route results in reduced mileage, fuel consumption, CO2 emissions, and overall increased operational efficiency. Real-time updates provided on traffic, construction, and weather and road conditions are used for making route changes, and preparing the driver for the road ahead.

Automated Trip Reports

By automating data input for trip reports, paper logbooks and other manual record keeping practices can be reduced or eliminated altogether. In addition to reducing internal overhead, reporting accuracy is also significantly increased. This is substantiated by industry research that shows log back data inaccuracy can exceed 40% in some cases, due to trip omissions, illegible writing and unreliable data recording. This can occur despite adherence to comprehensive Quality Assurance methods being in place.

Fleet Logistics Analysis

By analyzing the system data, improvements in fleet logistics can be made in several areas, including:

  • Concurrent vehicle use at each site – how many vehicles were absent from home base at the same time, and did their absence negatively impact other scheduled trips?
  • Vehicle destination – could another on-call vehicle situated closer to the destination have made the trip?
  • Offsite parking duration– did the vehicle park all day at a site close to home base, due to travel restrictions, rather than returning to the dispatch terminal safely and on time by using alternative scheduling or routing.

Fuel Consumption Tracking

PlanGlobal’s fuel efficiency reports provide side-by-side fuel consumption data for all of your fleet vehicles. This information is particularly useful during asset replacement planning.

Asset Replacement Planning

Quarterly vehicle reviews provide the basis for removing and replacing fleet units. If the determination is made that there are excess vehicles in the fleet, attention is focused on those units that are the least productive or have the highest maintenance costs.

Scheduled Maintenance Tracking

By utilizing the information collected in the automated trip reports, combined with analyzing the upcoming vehicle supply and demand metrics, maintenance scheduling can be optimized. The data provided through maintenance downtime reporting can subsequently be used to analyze the productivity of each fleet unit.

System Reporting

Customized system reports can be provided on any fleet management information tracked by the system, and can be e-mailed directly to the customer, based on their predefined or on-demand scheduling requirements.

Hardware and Software Administration and Support

PlanGlobal is qualified on all commercially available GPS telematics systems. Working with a variety of system vendors, we can provide technical support and recommend system updates and replacements based on the latest software advances.

Key Benefits

PlanGlobal’s Fleet Optimization solution provides the following benefits:

  • Increased efficiency per fleet vehicle
    • Complete more trips per vehicle per week.
    • Optimized time of day/week usage. Prioritize the operating hours to match with the timeframes that are least expensive for fleet operations.
    • Adherence to scheduled maintenance servicing helps to increase reliability and longevity for each vehicle.
  • Reduction in fleet size
    • Removing surplus vehicles is the easiest and most efficient method for lowering your fleet costs.
    • By analyzing system data, you can more easily and efficiently “right size” your fleet.
  • Increased personnel safety
    • Potentially dangerous driving practices are monitored and subsequently addressed.
    • Unreliable vehicles can be removed from the queue.
    • PlanGlobal’s system provides for a single point of contact for fleet and safety managers.
  • Reduced fuel costs
    • Managing improper driver behaviors, such as excessive speeding or idling, results in lower fuel costs. Optimized route planning, along with real-time updates also contributes by reducing overall mileage and corresponding fuel consumption.
  • Reduced administrative overhead
    • Recording proof of visit, and time on site, assists in customer invoicing and insurance claims tracking.
    • System scheduling and tracking of maintenance reduces manual data input.
  • Insurance Discounts
    • Reducing the number of vehicle accidents and the number of driving infractions contributes directly to reduced insurance premiums.
  • Increased customer satisfaction
    • Accurate, safe and prompt deliveries result in high customer service satisfaction levels.
