Inter Pipeline Expansion

A $92.9 million US expansion is in the works for Inter Pipeline with binding commercial support for their Mid-Saskatchewan pipeline systems.

The new agreement is expected to generate between $23.2 million and $27.8 million in incremental earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) annually. Five oil producers have entered into ship-or-pay contracts with the project. Terms range from four to ten years. The expansion is expected to enter commercial service in phases beginning in late 2014, with the full project completed in the second quarter of 2015.


KMLP Pipeline Extension

The US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has accepted Kinder Morgan Louisiana Pipeline LLC’s (KMLP) application to expand the capacity of the KMLP to meet the required volumes of gas for LNG Ltd’s proposed 8 MMt/a Magnolia LNG Project, located along the Calcasieu River, near Lake Charles, Louisiana.


Energy Transfer Partners and Pipelines

Energy Transfer Partners (ETP) has recently announced plans for construction of the Bakken Pipeline and a pipeline that would transport Marcellus and Utica shale supplies to markets in the United States and Canada.


Encana's $1.8 Billion Sale

Bighorn Operations will be sold by Calgary based Encana Corporation for an estimated $1.8 billion to privately held Juniper Resources. Both companies are Canadian. The sale is estimated at 360,000 acres of land in Canada with a total net proved reserves of about 1.1 trillion cubic feet equivalent of predominantly natural gas. The deal will also include Encana’s working interests in all pipelines, facilities, and service arrangements in the area.


BP and CNOOC Sign 20-year Deal

BP and China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) have announced an agreement for the supply of 1.5 million tonnes of Liquefied Natural Gas. (LNG). The supply will take place of the next 20 years starting in 2019.


Northern Gateway is Approved

Enbridge’s Northern Gateway Pipeline received a federal green light this week. The pipeline is estimated to cost $7.9 billion while moving 525,000 Barrels of oil per day from Alberta’s oil sands to the coast of British Columbia near Kitimat, B.C. From there the oil would be refined and shipped to California and Asian markets.


Refinery Plans for British Columbia

British Columbia is one of the most notable ways to get Alberta’s natural resources to Asian markets. Over the past few years the struggle to get LNG approval and pipeline approval in the province has faced environmentalist protests and government approval delays. Companies have unsuccessfully pitched projects and plans that would see the route between Alberta’s Oilsands and the British Columbia Coast united to ship crude to Asia.


EPA Plans to Reduce Carbon Emissions

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has released the new Clean Power Plan proposal which is intended to cut down the carbon pollution from existing power plants. Power plants are the single largest source of carbon pollution in the United States. The project will protect public health and move the United States toward a cleaner environment. The proposal will help fight climate change while supplying Americans with reliable and affordable power.


New Pipeline Safety Regulations

Canada’s federal government has released new measures to further enhance pipeline companies’ liability and accountability around spill response.


NuVista's 10 Year Deal

Due to third-party facility outages NuVista Energy Ltd.  announced production curtailments about a week ago. Then this week they made an announcement about a 10 year transport and processing deal that would allow for an additional 30 million cubic feet per day of natural gas.
